Woman Alleges Triple Talaq After 16 Years of Marriage in Kanpur

Kanpur, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : A woman in Kanpur has accused her husband of issuing her a triple talaq after 16 years of marriage. The incident has drawn significant attention, particularly given the allegations of domestic abuse and infidelity.

The woman, identified as Aafreen, reported that despite being married for over a decade and having two children, her husband expelled her from their home. She claims that he has been involved in an extramarital affair with another woman from their neighborhood.

Aafreen recounted a specific incident on July 7, when she caught her husband in the act with this other woman. This was not an isolated occurrence, she stated, as she had previously confronted him multiple times. Following the confrontation, a heated argument ensued, and family members were called in for mediation. During this discussion, her husband allegedly declared that the other woman meant everything to him and that he intended to marry her after issuing a divorce.

The situation escalated when, on the night of August 12, Aafreen’s husband pronounced the triple talaq in front of their two sons and subsequently forced her out of the house. In response, she filed a complaint at the Chaman Ganj police station.

Authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the husband under various charges, including domestic violence, harassment for dowry, and violations of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.

Atul Srivastava, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) in Kanpur, confirmed that an FIR has been filed and that an investigation is underway. Initially, Aafreen expressed frustration that her earlier complaints were not being recorded, but following the triple talaq incident, the police acted swiftly.

The DCP noted that attempts were made to resolve the matter amicably before the FIR was filed. Aafreen is now calling for her husband’s immediate arrest.
