New Delhi, February 16: Hari Shetty, Chief Strategist and Technology Officer at Wipro Limited, stated on Monday that artificial intelligence (AI) will significantly change the nature of jobs in the coming years. However, he emphasized that this evolution also presents a substantial opportunity for growth and employment.
In an exclusive interview, Shetty described AI as the most significant technological shift of our time. He compared the current wave of AI to historical technological breakthroughs such as the invention of electricity, the steam engine, and the internet revolution.
Shetty noted that AI represents one of the largest technological opportunities available. It is a multifaceted change that will transform industries and economies worldwide.
Citing a recent report from the World Economic Forum, he mentioned that AI could create approximately 170 million new jobs globally, while around 92 million jobs may be impacted. Nevertheless, it is anticipated that over 70 million additional jobs will emerge, leading to a net positive effect.
He acknowledged that the way we work will inevitably change. Companies and individuals will need to acquire new skills. However, he stressed that the future looks promising.
Shetty revealed that Wipro is preparing its workforce for this transition. The company has launched extensive AI literacy programs, providing training related to AI for all employees.
Additionally, he shared that Wipro is collaborating with seven states to establish Centers of Excellence in AI and Data Science. These initiatives are set to benefit around 60,000 students.
He concluded by stating that the future shaped by AI is not one of fear but a realm filled with opportunities that we need to embrace.
