St. Johns, Antigua, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the appointment of experienced coach Bob Carter as the team’s batting consultant on a one-year contract. Carter officially took on his role on September 1 and will oversee the men’s, women’s, and youth development programs within CWI.
As part of his initial responsibilities, Carter will visit all six first-class regions—Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Leeward Islands, and Windward Islands—later this month. During these visits, he will work directly with players and local coaches to enhance batting techniques.
This appointment comes at a crucial time as the West Indies prepare for a busy international calendar, including the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier scheduled for February and March 2027.
After taking the position, Carter expressed his commitment to continuing the West Indies’ proud tradition of producing world-class batsmen. He stated, “My role is to help lay the foundation for the next generation of players. I have always focused on helping players and coaches reach their full potential, and I look forward to collaborating with regional and high-performance coaches to achieve this.”
Carter brings a wealth of experience, having played 60 first-class matches and 50 List A games during his career. He has three decades of coaching experience with Caribbean teams and previously served as a high-performance coach with New Zealand Cricket from 2012 to 2025.
His impressive credentials include serving as the head coach of the New Zealand women’s team from 2019 to 2022 and holding assistant coaching roles with the Blackcaps. He has also taken on senior administrative roles in county cricket with Northamptonshire in England.
Miles Bascombe, CWI’s cricket director, emphasized the long-term vision behind Carter’s hiring, focusing on individual player development and strengthening the regional coaching framework. He noted, “The West Indies teams will participate in at least six global events over the next 24-30 months, including the men’s World Cup Qualifier next February. The steps we are taking now aim to lay the groundwork for success. Bob’s immediate task is to enhance technical standards ahead of these events, but the scope of this appointment extends beyond just how our top six teams perform in twelve months.”
