New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : The T20 series between India and Afghanistan is set to kick off on September 13, with off-spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar and seam-bowling all-rounder Nitish Reddy both cleared to play. The players will join the team on Thursday.
A source confirmed on Wednesday, “Sundar and Reddy have fully recovered. Both passed their fitness tests and match simulations at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.”
Washington Sundar missed the recent two-match Test series in Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Reddy last played in June during a home ODI series against Afghanistan but suffered a left quadriceps injury, which ruled him out of tours to Ireland, England, and Sri Lanka.
Jasprit Bumrah is also sidelined due to a knee injury sustained while fielding in the second ODI against England. As of now, there is no definitive update on his participation in the T20 series.
Additionally, the inclusion of seam-bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana remains uncertain as he recovers from a hamstring injury. If either player cannot join the national squad, fast bowler Prince Yadav may be called up at the last minute.
Following the T20 series against Afghanistan, the Indian team will travel to Japan for the 2026 Asian Games. They will play a T20 match against the host nation on September 22 at the Sano International Cricket Ground, before commencing their gold medal defense at the Koroz Sports Park on September 28.
Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan, Vaibhav Suryaanshi, and Tilak Verma are expected to join the Indian squad in New Delhi after fulfilling their commitments in the ongoing Duleep Trophy final in Chennai. Their arrival in the capital depends on when the result of the final at Chepauk is declared a draw.
