Lionel Messi Nears Majority Stake in Spanish Club Eldense

New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Argentine football legend Lionel Messi is on the verge of increasing his involvement in football club ownership. Spanish second division club Eldense announced that Messi has reached a preliminary agreement to become the majority shareholder.

Eldense stated that Messi has agreed to purchase shares currently held by Grupo TH Solutions. However, the deal is not finalized yet and will undergo several legal and contractual processes. The club emphasized that the agreement depends on due diligence and necessary approvals from Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD).

According to a statement from Eldense, reported by the BBC, “A preliminary agreement has been reached with Lionel Messi for the purchase of shares from Grupo TH Solutions, making him the majority shareholder of the club.”

If this investment goes through, Eldense will become Messi’s second Spanish club ownership. The 39-year-old player previously invested in the Catalan club Cornella, which currently competes in Spain’s fifth tier. This move highlights Messi’s growing interest in the development of football clubs off the pitch.

Located in Alicante, Eldense is struggling in La Liga 2, having earned only two points from their first four matches and sitting at the bottom of the standings. The club also parted ways with head coach Claudio Baragan earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Messi continues to play club football for Inter Miami. The former Barcelona forward has one of the most successful careers in football history, including winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina in 2022 and two Copa America titles. He recently announced his retirement from international football following Argentina’s 1-0 loss to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.

Messi concluded his international career after playing a record 207 matches for Argentina. His journey with the national team began in 2005, culminating in the World Cup victory after earlier disappointments.

Messi’s decision to retire from international play comes alongside numerous historic achievements in football, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the Copa America titles, solidifying his status as one of Argentina’s greatest footballers.
