Kolkata, August 27: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated on Wednesday that the state government is fully committed to protecting the faith, expression, and cultural practices of every community.
In a post on the social media platform X, Adhikari emphasized that during the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, religious flags and the Indian national flag were displayed with complete freedom and respect throughout the state. He added that the administration adopts a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against any attempts to misuse sacred occasions for political propaganda or to disrupt social harmony.
He praised the swift and decisive action of the Islampur district police, who seized illegal foreign flags, registered FIRs, and initiated strict legal action against those involved. Only two flags were confiscated across the state.
The Chief Minister remarked that religious events should be for faith and brotherhood, not for foreign geopolitical agendas or divisive propaganda. He noted that the previous government often allowed such occurrences due to its politics of appeasement.
Adhikari declared that the era of compromising the rule of law and national honor for the sake of appeasement politics is over. The BJP government will continue to ensure strict adherence to the law across West Bengal while safeguarding every citizen’s right to worship and celebrate festivals peacefully.
He commended the Bengal police, Kolkata police, district administration, and all staff on the ground for effectively managing crowds and ensuring that processions were conducted peacefully and without incident throughout the state.
