West Bengal Teachers Demand Implementation of 7th Pay Commission from CM Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, March 22: Teachers and education staff organizations in West Bengal have urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to include state teachers and educational employees under the 7th Pay Commission. A letter sent by the organization requested immediate action from the Chief Minister regarding this matter.

A member of the organization stated on Sunday that a letter was dispatched to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday concerning this demand. The letter noted, “During the presentation of the state budget in February, the Chief Minister announced the formation of the 7th Pay Commission. According to the statement made in the West Bengal Assembly at that time, it was indicated that the benefits of this commission would primarily apply to government employees.”

However, the organization argues that the status of teachers, education staff, and employees of government-aided institutions was not clearly defined. They contend that teachers and education staff have long been a vital part of the state’s education system. They assert that including them under the 7th Pay Commission is essential for improving their salary structure, financial security, and working conditions.

The organization warned that if the benefits are limited to government employees, a significant portion of the education sector will be left deprived. The letter also stated that considering the upcoming elections, a discriminatory approach in such crucial decisions could lead to discontent among employees.

The organization has demanded the immediate publication of the commission’s guidelines to ensure that all eligible employees, including teachers and education staff, are included. The letter, signed by the organization’s leader, Swapna Mandal, called for prompt administrative action.
