Agartala, March 18: Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Wednesday that the state has achieved a zero dropout rate in primary schools (grades 1 to 5). This marks a significant milestone in the state’s education sector.
While addressing the state assembly, the Chief Minister highlighted that continuous efforts by the primary education department and the implementation of various student-centered initiatives have contributed to this achievement.
Saha explained that the state government is actively working to ensure the success of the ‘Nipun’ Bharat Mission. Additionally, the ‘Sahars Tripura’ program has been launched, focusing on the social, emotional, and overall development of children.
He mentioned that multiple measures are being implemented to assist students and prevent dropouts. These include distributing learning aids and play materials, initiating digital learning programs, and establishing libraries in every school.
To ensure effective monitoring, student attendance and potential dropouts are tracked through U-DISE. The government also provides special training for children who have dropped out of school and hostel facilities for students coming from remote areas.
Additional support measures include the construction of separate toilets in schools, scholarships for children with special needs, regular teacher-parent meetings, and the provision of free uniforms and textbooks.
Saha stated that these collective efforts have played a crucial role in ensuring that every child in Tripura remains connected to primary education.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister congratulated Ram Pada Jamatiya on being elected unopposed as the new Speaker of the Tripura Assembly. This election became necessary following the passing of the current Speaker, Biswabandhu Sen, on December 26 of last year. Sen, who had served as an MLA four times, passed away at the age of 72 in a private hospital in Bengaluru after undergoing treatment for over four months.
Saha described this moment as significant for the assembly, noting that Jamatiya’s unopposed election reflects widespread confidence in his leadership. He praised the new Speaker’s address in Hindi, stating it brought a refreshing change to the atmosphere of the house.
The Chief Minister expressed, “We are very pleased to have such a capable Speaker. The assembly should work above politics as a center of fairness and democracy.”
He expressed confidence that Jamatiya would fulfill his responsibilities with impartiality and efficiency. Saha personally congratulated him and expressed hope that the new Speaker’s tenure would be remembered for contributing to and enhancing democratic values in Tripura.
