Guardians of Nature: Cyclists Promote Fitness and Environmental Awareness in New Delhi

New Delhi, March 22: A unique blend of fitness and environmental awareness was witnessed in the capital city of India on Sunday morning. The 66th edition of ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ saw a large turnout of participants. This time, the theme was ‘Guardians of Nature,’ featuring active participation from forest rangers. Clad in uniforms, these rangers cycled past India Gate, which became the main attraction of the event.

The event kicked off from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, where the army band played patriotic tunes, and a conch shell was blown to signal the start of the cycling rally. The aim was to raise awareness about fitness and environmental conservation, with support from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Over 500 individuals participated in the cycling rally, with people of all ages arriving early in the morning. Before cycling commenced, participants engaged in activities like Zumba, yoga, and jump rope, creating an energetic and enthusiastic atmosphere. The event also featured the ‘First PSPB Fit India Cyclothon,’ where competitors from various age groups showcased their fitness. In a 5-kilometer race, both men and women demonstrated their stamina.

In the competition results, SK Prajapati secured first place in the men’s category under 45 years, while Kushmeet Singh emerged victorious in the over 45 category. Among women, Preeti Mane won in the under 45 category, and Ranjana Anand took the title in the over 45 category. The winners were honored during the event, which also saw the presence of several prominent personalities.

Chief Conservator of Forests Dr. P. Vishwakannan, along with officials and athletes from various fields, was recognized. Notable figures included Arjuna Award-winning shooter Shilpi Bisht, basketball player Mohit Bhandari, hockey player Kushmeet Singh, carrom player Rashmi Kumari, and cyclist and Fit India ambassador Rahul Pradhan. Their presence inspired attendees.

Following the cycling race, a large community cycling rally was organized for the general public, attracting numerous participants. Additionally, various activities related to yoga, music, and entertainment were held at the venue, creating a festive atmosphere.

The ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ initiative was launched in December 2024 under the guidance of Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. It has now evolved into a significant public movement, with thousands participating weekly across the country.

The goal of this initiative is to encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle while also raising awareness about environmental conservation. This event not only promotes fitness but also conveys the message that a healthy body and a clean environment are essential for a better future.
