Kolkata, March 29: Abdur Rahim Kazi, the sitting MLA from Baduria in North 24 Parganas, has officially parted ways with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) after being denied a ticket for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.
In a post on his Facebook account, Kazi announced his resignation from all positions within the party, including his primary membership.
Since the announcement of the election schedule and the release of the candidate list by TMC, discontent and protests have emerged within the ruling party across several constituencies. Baduria has now joined this growing list of dissenting voices.
Despite being the incumbent MLA, Kazi was not granted a ticket this time. According to insiders, this decision had been a source of long-standing dissatisfaction for him. On Sunday morning, Kazi made his resignation from TMC public.
He expressed that he could no longer reconcile the deep gap between the party’s proclaimed ideals and its actual practices in the current political climate.
On the same day, Kazi shared an emotional message on Facebook, describing his decision to leave TMC as difficult but principled.
Reflecting on his extensive political journey, he credited the love and blessings of the common people as his sole source of strength. While explaining his reasons for leaving, Kazi openly expressed his disappointment regarding the atmosphere within the organization.
He alleged that he had repeatedly raised his voice against various “injustices and unfair practices” prevalent within TMC. However, despite his efforts, the party leadership failed to implement any effective corrective measures. Kazi lamented the ongoing neglect and injustice within TMC, which has caused him profound sorrow.
Following his departure from TMC, speculation has intensified regarding which political party Kazi might join next. He has not yet clarified whether he intends to affiliate with another political party.
Kazi pledged, “I have stood by the people, and I will continue to stand with them in the future; this is my firm commitment.”
As of now, TMC leadership has not released any official statement regarding this development.
