Kolkata, May 1: West Bengal’s Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose finally appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday for questioning. This investigation pertains to alleged irregularities in municipal recruitment, involving accusations of a multi-crore scam.
The ED had summoned Bose multiple times before, but he failed to appear on three occasions, citing his commitments to campaigning for the assembly elections.
Later, he sought relief from the Calcutta High Court regarding this matter. The court granted him temporary relief until the elections but clearly stated that he must appear before the ED after the electoral process concluded.
Following this directive, Sujit Bose arrived at the ED’s office in Salt Lake on Friday morning, accompanied by his lawyer. Although media personnel attempted to question him outside the office, he chose not to respond and entered quietly.
Not only Sujit Bose but also the state’s Food and Supply Minister Rathin Ghosh has been implicated in this recruitment scam. Ghosh was also summoned by the ED for questioning related to the same case. In October 2023, the ED had already interrogated him and conducted a raid at his residence.
Additionally, the ED team had raided Sujit Bose’s home and office in January 2024 and October 2025. They also searched the premises of some of his close associates.
Sujit Bose has served as a legislator from the Trinamool Congress three times and is contesting again from the Bidhannagar assembly seat in North 24 Parganas district. Rathin Ghosh is also running from the Madhyamgram seat in the same district. Both constituencies recently held voting in the second phase on April 29.
