Kolkata, May 18: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has taken a significant step in the RG Kar rape and murder case by granting the Enforcement Directorate (ED) permission to initiate legal action against Sandeep Ghosh. The Chief Minister shared this update on social media.
In a post on the platform X, Adhikari expressed his fortune in taking a “great and positive step” as Chief Minister. He stated that legal action has been authorized against Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with the brutal murder and rape of Sister Abhaya on August 9, 2024.
Adhikari criticized the previous Trinamool Congress government for allegedly obstructing the investigation process for an extended period. He emphasized that no one is above the law and that the truth cannot be suppressed. The Chief Minister expressed his desire for the real culprits behind Sister Abhaya’s death to be identified swiftly and punished severely, ensuring justice for the people of Bengal. He also prayed for the peace of Sister Abhaya’s soul.
Previously, Chief Minister Adhikari suspended three IPS officers, including a former police commissioner of Kolkata, in relation to this case. The suspended officials are former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal, former Deputy Commissioner (North Division) Abhishek Gupta, and former Deputy Commissioner (Central Division) Indira Mukherjee.
While announcing their suspension, Adhikari stated that a departmental inquiry would be initiated against all three. He also mentioned that the role of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this matter would be reviewed. After assuming office, the Chief Minister requested a detailed written report from the Chief Secretary and the State Home Secretary regarding the RG Kar case and subsequent developments.
