Purulia, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday is being celebrated across India with various initiatives. In Purulia, West Bengal, beneficiaries of the Annapurna scheme, Mamta Mahato and Lenin Mahato, have taken a unique approach to express their appreciation. They planted trees in their fields as a birthday gift to the Prime Minister.
Residing in the village of Amalatora, the couple was inspired by Modi’s “One Tree in the Name of Mother” campaign, which aims to promote environmental awareness. They stated that this act was their way of honoring the Prime Minister’s message of fostering a clean and green environment.
Launched in 2025, the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” initiative encourages citizens to contribute to nature, which is vital for sustaining life. Mamta and Lenin are not just planting trees; they are also actively working to raise awareness among their fellow villagers about the importance of maintaining a clean environment. They are educating local school children about environmental conservation as well.
Mamta shared, “On September 17, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrates his birthday. In honor of his message, we planted a tree in the name of our mother. This is our birthday gift to him.” Lenin added that he and his wife are committed to making their village greener and cleaner. “By planting this tree, we send a small message that we can enhance our surroundings while promoting cleanliness,” he explained.
They have plans to plant more trees during the rainy season and ensure their care. “For us, planting trees is not just an event; it’s a responsibility for future generations. If nature survives, so will we,” Lenin emphasized.
Additionally, millions of beneficiaries from various welfare schemes will participate in a program called “Aashirwad Ka Diya” on September 17. They will light lamps in their homes, similar to the Diwali festival, as a gesture of gratitude towards the Prime Minister.
