CBI Files FIR Against Former Income Tax Commissioner and CISF DIG for Alleged Disproportionate Assets

New Delhi, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against former Income Tax Commissioner Jivanlal Lawariya and his wife, former CISF Deputy Inspector General Shipra Srivastava, for allegedly acquiring assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The FIR was registered on September 10 by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch-III in New Delhi. It accuses Lawariya, an officer from the 2004 batch of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), of misusing his position to illegally amass wealth between April 1, 2022, and May 10, 2025.

According to the FIR, Lawariya is alleged to have acquired assets worth ₹1,11,77,889, which is approximately 57.10% more than his known income during the investigation period. The CBI has also charged Shipra Srivastava with aiding her husband in accumulating this disproportionate wealth.

During his tenure, Lawariya served as the Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions) in Hyderabad, and he also held additional responsibilities for the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) for Units 7 and 8.

Additionally, the CBI noted that a separate case against Lawariya and others was registered on May 9, 2025, concerning allegations of receiving undue benefits in exchange for resolving taxpayer appeals.

The FIR details that searches were conducted at multiple locations, including the residences of Lawariya and Srivastava, where numerous documents related to movable and immovable properties were seized. These properties were reportedly purchased in the names of Lawariya and his family members.

The CBI claims that handwritten documents and details of cash amounting to approximately ₹54 lakh were also recovered from their Delhi residence. During the investigation, it was found that the total assets and expenditures of Lawariya and his family amounted to ₹3,07,52,247, while their total income during the same period was reported at ₹1,95,74,358. This discrepancy led the CBI to estimate the alleged disproportionate assets at ₹1,11,77,889.

By the end of the investigation period, the total value of Lawariya and his family’s assets was approximately ₹4,31,60,820. The CBI has filed a case against Lawariya under Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, while Srivastava faces charges related to her alleged complicity in the matter.

The investigation has been entrusted to CBI Inspector Naveen Kumar, who is now examining the alleged assets, financial transactions, and relevant documents in detail.
