Jalpaiguri, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Pipasa Haldar, a prominent figure in the transgender community, was granted bail by a district court in Jalpaiguri on Wednesday evening. She had been arrested on September 10 in connection with an alleged arms recovery case.
Authorities claimed that during a joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police, two firearms, a Bangladeshi SIM card, and a birth certificate issued by the Bangladeshi government were seized from her residence.
However, Manabi Haldar, a member of the transgender community, asserted that Pipasa was falsely implicated in the case, insisting that the recovered items were not linked to her.
Defense attorney Alokesh Chakraborty argued in court that the weapons were not found in Pipasa’s direct possession. He also raised concerns about the legality of the arrest and the search process.
On September 10, a search operation lasting around ten hours was conducted at Pipasa’s home in the North Raikatpara area of Jalpaiguri. Following this, she was taken into custody.
According to police and BSF reports, the search yielded two country-made guns, three live cartridges, two empty magazines, a Bangladeshi SIM card, and a birth certificate from the Bangladeshi government. Consequently, a case was registered against Pipasa under relevant sections of the law.
Following her arrest, Pipasa denied all allegations, claiming that nothing was found during the search and that she was wrongfully implicated.
Pipasa Haldar has been residing in the North Raikatpara area since 2015, where the number of transgender individuals in the community has grown significantly, currently housing around 40 to 50 members.
With her recent bail, Pipasa has found some relief, although investigations into the allegations involving weapons, foreign documents, and purported foreign connections continue.
