Bhopal, May 9: The heat in Madhya Pradesh is becoming increasingly intense, affecting both humans and birds. While residents are advised to take precautions against the heatwave, efforts are underway to ensure birds have access to water. The Bhopal railway division has set up water troughs at several locations to assist local wildlife.
Temperatures in the state have soared above 40 degrees Celsius, creating a challenging environment. To facilitate easy access to water for birds, a medical team led by Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Ajay Dogra has installed troughs in the park area of the railway hospital in Bhopal.
Officials and staff present at the event were encouraged to set up similar troughs at their homes and workplaces, regularly refilling them to support birds during the summer. Senior DCM Saurabh Kataria emphasized that providing water for birds during extreme heat is a social and humanitarian responsibility. Such small initiatives promote environmental conservation and sensitivity towards wildlife.
In another effort to address the rising temperatures and heat management, the Madhya Pradesh government’s Disaster Management Institute, under the Home Department, organized a workshop in collaboration with various development partners, including UNICEF, UN Women, civil society organizations, Rotary Club, and the India Meteorological Department.
The workshop focused on the need for coordinated preparation and mitigation strategies to tackle challenges posed by heatwaves. Discussions included the causes of heatwaves, their increasing frequency, and their adverse impacts on public health, livelihoods, infrastructure, the economy, and vulnerable communities.
