Beijing, 1 January: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun on Wednesday.
Wang Yi stated that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China-South Korea relations have moved beyond a low point and are now showing a steady trend of improvement. He emphasized the importance of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung’s visit to China, welcoming it warmly, and expressed confidence that joint efforts by both sides will advance the China-South Korea strategic partnership to new heights.
Wang Yi further remarked that in view of some political forces in Japan attempting to turn back the wheel of history and whitewashing aggressive colonial crimes, he trusts that South Korea will adopt a responsible attitude toward history and its people, take the correct stance, and uphold international justice. This includes adherence to the One-China principle regarding the Taiwan issue.
During the phone call, Cho Hyun stated that President Lee Jae-myung places high priority on cooperation with China and is firmly committed to developing the China-South Korea strategic partnership. South Korea wishes to work closely with China to ensure that President Lee’s visit to China proceeds smoothly and successfully. South Korea’s position of respecting the One-China principle remains unchanged.
