New Delhi, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Vinod Tawde, the BJP’s national general secretary, has fired back at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi‘s recent accusations against the Election Commission. Tawde accused Gandhi of undermining democracy, stating that those responsible for dismissing elected governments multiple times have no right to comment on constitutional institutions.
In a post on the social media platform X, Tawde remarked, “Those who have the title of killing democracy by dismissing elected governments 90 times have no right to comment on constitutional institutions. Uttar Pradesh has also witnessed Congress sacrificing elected governments six times through President’s Rule or withdrawing support.”
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had targeted both the Election Commission and the BJP on X, alleging a consistent pattern of undermining political parties. He stated, “There is always the same pattern. The BJP and the Election Commission conspire to break a party, and then its election symbol is taken away.”
Gandhi further claimed that if an entire party can be “stolen,” then it is unsurprising that millions of Indian votes could also be compromised. He stated, “Vote theft, government theft, and now party theft have become symbols of our democratic decline.”
The Congress leader emphasized that the Election Commission has a constitutional duty to protect the mandate of the people, yet he accused it of aiding forces that overturn public decisions. He asserted that this struggle is not just about Mamata Banerjee but concerns every political party and voter who desires free and fair elections.
This exchange between the BJP and Congress regarding the Election Commission and political party symbols comes amid ongoing political debates in West Bengal surrounding the Trinamool Congress’s election symbol.
