BJP Leader Responds to Opposition Protests: Maintaining Law and Order is Our Responsibility

BJPs N. Ramachandra Rao emphasizes the governments duty to maintain law and order amid opposition protests, targeting Asaduddin Owaisis claims.

Hyderabad, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : N. Ramachandra Rao, head of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Telangana unit, addressed recent protests by opposition parties, asserting that maintaining law and order is a fundamental responsibility of the government and administration.

In an interview, Rao stated that it is the duty of the government to ensure public safety and protect both public and private property. He accused the Congress Party and its student wing, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), of attempting to disrupt public peace, which necessitated action from the administration. He noted that while these parties now oppose the measures taken, they should reflect on their own history.

Rao reminded the Congress Party of the Emergency period during their rule, when many were imprisoned without cause, including students under the Defense of India Rules and the Maintenance of Internal Security Act. He stressed that the current administration’s actions to maintain public order should not be met with protests from Congress or the Aam Aadmi Party.

He also criticized Asaduddin Owaisi, a Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, for filing a review petition in the Supreme Court. Rao claimed Owaisi is misleading the public regarding the removal of minority names from voter lists, describing it as an attempt to create confusion. He emphasized that no minority voter has been removed from the rolls.

Rao insisted that it is the responsibility of all political parties to ensure every Indian citizen is registered to vote. He accused Owaisi, who has previously participated in the electoral process, of engaging in vote-bank politics akin to the Congress Party by alleging that Muslim votes are being suppressed.

He pointed out that the Supreme Court has already clarified the process regarding the electoral rolls, issuing a comprehensive decision. Nonetheless, he believes Owaisi’s petitions are merely a strategy to bolster his standing among minority voters, while Congress raises the issue of the electoral rolls to strengthen its own vote bank.
