Vietnam Issues Warning Amid Rising Dengue Fever Cases

Hanoi, April 14: Vietnam is currently facing an outbreak of dengue fever, with over 30 cases reported so far, including four fatalities. The Ministry of Health has issued a warning that the number of dengue infections may continue to rise.

According to the local daily ‘Nhandan’, there have been 31,927 reported cases since the beginning of this year, with four deaths included in this count. Most of these cases are concentrated in the southern regions of the country.

As reported by the news agency ‘Xinhua’, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Disease Prevention Administration, Vo Hai Son, stated that if preventive measures are not strictly enforced, the number of infections could increase in the near future.

The health department is collaborating with local authorities to monitor and control the outbreak, while also ramping up public awareness campaigns about disease prevention.

This warning comes as the hot and humid weather has begun early, along with irregular rainfall, creating favorable conditions for mosquito breeding. Last year, Vietnam recorded over 181,000 cases of dengue fever, resulting in 36 deaths.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to humans through mosquito bites. Most individuals infected with dengue do not show symptoms. However, those who do may experience high fever, headaches, body aches, nausea, and rashes. Most recover within one to two weeks, but some cases can become severe, requiring hospitalization. In critical situations, dengue can be fatal.
