
Srinagar, February 25: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday for a two-day visit. A special Boeing aircraft landed at Srinagar Airport on Wednesday evening.
Upon arrival, Radhakrishnan was welcomed by Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, the General Officer Commanding of the 15 Corps stationed in Srinagar, and the Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir.
Following the reception, he traveled under tight security to the Raj Bhavan located in the Chashma Shahi area of Srinagar. This marks Radhakrishnan’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since taking office.
On Thursday, he will be the chief guest at the 21st convocation ceremony held at the University of Kashmir’s Hazratbal campus. The Lieutenant Governor serves as the university’s chancellor, while the Chief Minister is the pro-chancellor.
In anticipation of the Vice President’s arrival, security measures were intensified. Security forces conducted route sanitization and dry runs along his designated paths.
Temporary checkpoints have been established at various locations throughout the city. Vehicle inspections and searches of individuals entering the city have been heightened to ensure safety during this VVIP visit.
The traffic department issued a detailed advisory urging travelers to take alternative routes to facilitate the smooth movement of the Vice President’s convoy. According to the advisory, vehicles will not be allowed to proceed from Badyari Chowk and Gupkar Road towards Nishat, Shalimar, Harwan, and nearby areas on Thursday.
Traffic heading from Ram Munshi Bagh to Hotel Grand Palace will also be restricted. Vehicles will be redirected towards Dalget, Sangarmal, and Ikhwan Chowk.
During specified times, traffic will be restricted on Dalget, Khayyam, Khanyaar, Rainawari, Saidkadal, and Hazratbal routes. Vehicles from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat, Gandarbal, and surrounding areas heading to Lal Chowk will be allowed to use the routes via Burzhama, Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakura, Malbagh, Ilahi Bagh, and 90 Feet Road.
Similarly, individuals traveling from Dalget, Lal Chowk, and nearby areas to Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat are advised to use Sangarmal, Ikhwan Chowk, Nauhatta, 90 Feet Road, and Malbagh routes.
Vehicles traveling from Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat to Srinagar Airport will be permitted to use Burzhama, Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakura, Malbagh, Ilahi Bagh, and 90 Feet Road.
Vehicles heading from Panthachowk and Pandrethun towards Ram Munshi Bagh will be allowed to pass through Peaks Motors Nowgam and the bypass route.
Officials stated that permits will be granted after verification in cases of medical emergencies. Citizens can contact the traffic police for any assistance.
