VHP Responds to Life Sentences for Tahir Hussain and Others in Delhi Violence Case

New Delhi, July 31: A significant ruling has emerged from the Karkardooma Court regarding the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the Delhi riots. The court sentenced former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain and four others to life imprisonment. This decision, six years in the making, has drawn sharp reactions from the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).

VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal commented, “Although it took six years, today’s verdict is a testament to what the entire nation witnessed.”

He further stated, “Tahir Hussain’s home and rooftop became a hub for violence against Hindus. In our view, a large number of Islamic extremists gathered there, stockpiling weapons and launching attacks, all coordinated by Hussain.”

Bansal emphasized that with the life sentences handed to these five convicts, it is now time for the AAP, Congress, and a leader from Hyderabad to respect the law. If they fail to do so, they should publicly apologize to the people.

VHP’s international president Alok Kumar also reacted to the verdict, noting that Hussain was elected by the people for the municipal corporation and had taken an oath under the Constitution. Despite this, he faced allegations of inciting riots. An inspector residing in his area was murdered, with the post-mortem revealing 51 stab wounds on the body. This was an act of extreme brutality, and the body was discarded in a drain. Such cruelty and barbarism are beyond comprehension. He was also accused of leading and inciting the riots.

Kumar believes this case falls into the rarest of rare categories and should have warranted the death penalty. However, he acknowledged that the court’s decision must be respected by all.

It is noteworthy that Ankit Sharma’s body was discovered in a drain in the Chand Bagh area during the riots in February 2020. The post-mortem revealed multiple injuries, leading the police to charge Hussain and others. After hearings, the Karkardooma Court found Hussain and four other defendants guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
