Strengthening Ties: S. Jaishankar Emphasizes Partnership with Luxembourg Amid Global Uncertainty

New Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, met with Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Xavier Bettel, on Monday in New Delhi. Following their discussions, the two leaders addressed a joint press conference, highlighting the progress made in bilateral relations. Jaishankar underscored the significance of the partnership with Luxembourg during these tumultuous times.

Sharing insights from their meeting on the social media platform X, Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in welcoming Bettel, stating, “In a world marked by uncertainty and upheaval, reliable partnerships like that of India and Luxembourg have become crucial.”

The discussions covered a variety of sectors, including trade, investment, fintech, startups, clean technology, space, health, education, and mobility. They also touched upon global events and multilateral cooperation. Jaishankar expressed gratitude for Bettel’s support regarding the strong ties between India and the European Union.

While welcoming Bettel at Hyderabad House, Jaishankar remarked, “It is a pleasure to welcome you and your delegation to India. Your visit reflects our deepening partnership.”

Jaishankar thanked Bettel for Luxembourg’s robust support for a free trade agreement (FTA), noting, “With your assistance, we have successfully moved the agreement to its final stages, and it is now progressing towards implementation.”

Bettel reciprocated the sentiments, praising Jaishankar and Prime Minister Modi for their commitment to action. He recalled their collaboration during the COVID-19 pandemic, stating, “What I appreciate about you and Prime Minister Modi is that when you say something, you follow through. This was evident during the pandemic when your Prime Minister declared, ‘We are going to do this.’ In Europe, such statements often lead to discussions on how to fulfill promises. In India, it’s both the beginning and the end, as everything was accomplished the very next day. I am impressed by the effectiveness of your political statements.”
