Verdict Expected in High-Profile Murder Case of IB Officer Ankit Sharma

New Delhi, June 4: The Karkardooma Court is set to deliver its verdict on the murder case of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma, which gained significant attention during the communal riots in Northeast Delhi in 2020. The court’s decision is anticipated on Thursday.

A total of 11 accused individuals are involved in this case, including former Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) councillor Tahir Hussain.

Ankit Sharma was murdered in February 2020 amidst widespread communal violence in Northeast Delhi. His body was discovered in a drain, shocking the nation. An FIR was filed at the Dayalpur police station based on a complaint from Sharma’s father.

According to the investigation and documents presented in court, on the evening of February 25, 2020, a mob surrounded Ankit Sharma near the Chand Bagh bridge. The crowd allegedly dragged him away and brutally attacked him.

Post-mortem reports and evidence presented in court indicate that Sharma suffered multiple stab wounds. Furthermore, his face and body were reportedly burned with acid. This incident sparked widespread discussion and political debate across the country.

Tahir Hussain, a former Aam Aadmi Party leader and MCD councillor, is among the primary accused. The prosecution claims that the murder was part of orchestrated violence, while the defense has denied the allegations.

After nearly six years of hearings, all eyes are now on the Karkardooma Court’s verdict.
