Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Tickets Sold Out Within Hours

New Delhi: The recently launched Vande Bharat Sleeper train, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has received an overwhelming response from passengers. Tickets for the train were fully booked within hours of the booking window opening, the Ministry of Railways announced on Tuesday.

The much-anticipated Vande Bharat Sleeper train will run between Kamakhya and Howrah. Prime Minister Modi flagged off this first Vande Bharat Sleeper service on 17 January 2026.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the train (number 27576) running between Kamakhya (KYQ) and Howrah (HWH) has generated significant enthusiasm. “Tickets across all classes were sold out in less than 24 hours through PRS and other booking platforms,” the ministry stated.

The inaugural commercial journey will begin from Kamakhya on 22 January 2026 and from Howrah on 23 January 2026. Ticket bookings commenced on 19 January at 8:00 AM, and the rapid sell-out reflects the strong public interest in this premium semi-high-speed rail service.

The ministry further noted that the excellent response highlights passengers’ growing preference for faster, safer, and more comfortable train travel options. The Kamakhya-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Northeast and Eastern India, offering modern amenities, reduced travel time, and a world-class overnight journey experience.

Additionally, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the launch of nine new Amrit India Express trains on Tuesday. These include routes such as Kamakhya-Rohtak, Howrah-Anand Vihar Terminal, Bengaluru-Alipurduar, Alipurduar-Mumbai, and Gomti Nagar-Dibrugarh.
