Mumbai, April 5: Central Minister V. Somanna stated on Saturday that the upcoming by-election in Karnataka’s Davanagere South Assembly constituency will be pivotal for the country’s direction. He expressed confidence that BJP candidate Srinivas Dasakariyappa will secure victory in this election.
In a media interaction, Somanna criticized the Congress party for repeatedly nominating candidates from the same family for three generations. He questioned how long one family would continue to contest elections.
Somanna emphasized that this election is linked to the self-respect and future of minorities, asserting that a BJP win would reflect the future of the nation. He claimed that engineering graduate Srinivas Dasakariyappa is poised for a definitive victory.
He noted a prevailing sentiment among the public that elections are predominantly won by a single family, but this time, a BJP victory would alleviate that frustration. Somanna added that minority votes in Davanagere are crucial and they are sending a message to teach Congress a lesson.
“I have witnessed many elections, but the current situation in Davanagere is unprecedented. Everything will be decided on April 9,” he stated.
Commenting on the development of Davanagere, Somanna remarked that the city is no longer the “Manchester of Karnataka” due to a lack of progress. He asserted that this election is about self-respect, and a BJP victory will ensure development.
Indirectly targeting senior Congress leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa’s family, he noted that one family considers itself the only winner, but this path leads to a dead end. Congress has nominated Shamanur’s grandson, Samarth Mallikarjun, whose father is a minister and mother a Congress MP.
Somanna praised former MP G.M. Siddeshwar’s contributions, stating that a BJP victory would advance the development process.
He also criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for implementing several railway projects in Karnataka yet facing criticism. Somanna urged Siddaramaiah to abandon narrow-minded thinking and refrain from unnecessary criticism of the Prime Minister and central ministers.
