V.D. Satheeshan Holds First Cabinet Meeting After Taking Oath

Thiruvananthapuram, May 18: Heavy rainfall did not dampen the spirits of thousands of enthusiastic supporters as V.D. Satheeshan’s new government officially took charge on Monday. This marks the beginning of a new political chapter in Kerala after a decade-long hiatus.

Immediately following the oath-taking ceremony, Satheeshan and his 21-member cabinet attended a traditional tea party hosted by Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the ‘Loka Bhavan’.

As ministers greeted each other and began to feel the weight of governance, the weather in the capital took a turn. By the time the new ministers headed towards the ‘North Block’ of the state secretariat for their first cabinet meeting, torrential rain had begun to pour.

The weather only fueled the excitement of the crowd waiting outside. Amid the heavy downpour, chants in support of Satheeshan echoed, welcoming the return of the Congress-led UDF government to power.

A significant portion of the crowd consisted of UDF-supporting secretariat staff, party workers, and ordinary supporters who gathered to witness this historic moment despite the rain. As ministers entered the secretariat complex, security personnel struggled to manage the growing crowd.

Satheeshan was the first to enter the Chief Minister’s office, where he formally took charge by signing initial files related to the power transfer.

While the new Chief Minister completed the formalities, his cabinet colleagues gradually gathered in the cabinet meeting room adjacent to his office. Moments later, Satheeshan arrived in the cabinet room and took his seat at the head of the long table, marking the official start of the new government’s first cabinet meeting.

Expectations are already rising regarding the decisions that will emerge from this initial meeting, with many significant policy announcements and welfare measures anticipated in the coming days.

Several of these decisions are expected to have a direct impact on the lives of Kerala’s citizens. After the cabinet meeting concludes, Satheeshan will address the media to outline the government’s immediate priorities and future direction.
