Uttarakhands First Grand Yamuna Ghat Under Construction in Haripur Kalasi

Dehradun, May 21: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the completion of the state’s first grand Yamuna Ghat in Haripur Kalasi by July. The foundation stone for this ambitious project was laid by CM Dhami during the Krishna Janmashtami festival in 2024.

In line with CM Dhami’s announcement, the project aims to re-establish Haripur Kalasi as a significant religious and spiritual pilgrimage site. The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has been designated as the nodal agency overseeing this initiative.

Despite being the origin of the sacred Yamuna River, known as Yamunotri Dham, Uttarakhand lacked a developed ghat for devotees to perform rituals and take holy baths. Recognizing this need, CM Dhami included the construction of the grand Yamuna Ghat in his list of priorities.

This approximately one-kilometer-long ghat will be the first large ghat dedicated to the Yamuna in Uttarakhand, accommodating thousands of devotees for bathing and worship. Historical records indicate that Haripur Yamuna Ghat was once a prominent religious site before it was washed away in a flood. CM Dhami has committed to reviving this historical and spiritual heritage by initiating the construction of the grand ghat.

The Chief Minister stated that the state government is fully committed to developing the Haripur Yamuna Ghat as a major religious destination. He emphasized that this project will serve as a center of faith for millions of devotees, including those from the Jaunsar-Bawar region, who hold reverence for Lord Krishna and Mother Yamuna.

Additionally, CM Dhami mentioned that funds for this project will be allocated in the upcoming budget, and he has instructed the administration to complete the work by July.

Preparations are also underway to install a 25-foot tall statue of Mother Yamuna on the pillar of the old bridge near the ghat. Land has been generously donated for the construction of a large temple nearby, with plans for further development being formulated.
