Dehradun, April 5: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and the central government for approving ₹461 crore for the treatment and repair of landslide-affected sites in Uttarakhand.
CM Dhami described this decision as significant and impactful for the state, enhancing road infrastructure and ensuring traveler safety.
He noted that under this approval, ₹233 crore has been allocated for the treatment of 17 landslide-affected sites on National Highway-134 in Uttarkashi district, and ₹228 crore for three sensitive sites on the Tawaghat-Ghatia Bagad section of National Highway-09 in Pithoragarh district. This initiative will not only help reduce disaster risk but also facilitate access to remote and border areas of the state.
The Chief Minister highlighted that National Highway-134, a major route for the Char Dham pilgrimage, connects Yamunotri Dham from Dharasu and Kuthnori in Uttarakhand. This route has been particularly vulnerable to landslides, often disrupting traffic and causing difficulties for travelers. The completion of the proposed works will enhance the stability of this route, making the Char Dham pilgrimage safer and more convenient. Additionally, it will provide better facilities for religious tourists, nature enthusiasts, and local residents.
He added that the treatment of landslide-prone sites on National Highway-09 will establish uninterrupted connectivity to border areas. This will not only relieve local residents but also prove strategically important.
The Chief Minister emphasized that coordinated efforts between the central and state governments are ongoing to strengthen Uttarakhand’s road network. This approval marks a crucial step towards overall development, promoting tourism, and enhancing disaster management capabilities.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami stated, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for approving ₹461 crore for the treatment and repair of landslide-affected sites in Uttarakhand. This decision will be a milestone in strengthening road safety in the state, facilitating the Char Dham pilgrimage, and enhancing connectivity in border areas. Our government is committed to the comprehensive development of the state and the convenience of its citizens.”
