West Bengal Official Removed for Political Campaigning Violations

Kolkata, April 4: In a decisive move to ensure fair elections, the Election Commission has removed a sector assistant (teacher) from Barasat Circle with immediate effect. The official is accused of having close ties with a political party despite being a government employee. Allegations also include engaging in campaigning for the party.

The Returning Officer of Pinhati AC has sent a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer recommending action in this case. The letter urges not only the suspension of the teacher but also the initiation of a departmental inquiry for misconduct.

In the correspondence addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer, it was noted that Atanu Chakraborty, an assistant teacher stationed at Chaudharipara Primary School and working as a sector assistant in the 111-Pinahat Assembly constituency, was found to be closely involved with the activities of a political party. He is accused of participating in political campaigning activities.

These actions violate the Representation of the People Act, 1951, constituting misconduct and neglect of duty. As such, they compromise the expected impartiality and neutrality associated with his position. Consequently, he has been removed from the sector assistant role and has been instructed to provide an explanation within 24 hours regarding why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him.
