Uttarakhand Police Arrests Notorious Criminal After Encounter in Dehradun

Dehradun, August 19: In a significant operation, Dehradun police apprehended a notorious criminal following an encounter in the Basant Vihar area. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was subsequently admitted to a hospital for treatment. The police are currently engaged in further investigations.

The arrested individual has been identified as 27-year-old Akash, also known as “Tamacha,” a resident of the Raipur police station area in Dehradun. He had an active case registered against him for chain snatching at the Basant Vihar police station.

According to Dehradun police, late at night, during a rigorous checking operation at the Harbanswala barrier, they attempted to stop a scooter without a license plate. However, the rider attempted to flee instead of complying with the checkpoint.

The police team promptly initiated a chase. During the pursuit, the suspect fired at the police. In response, the police returned fire, injuring the suspect. He was hit in the leg and subsequently fell to the ground. He was arrested and taken to Premnagar Hospital, where he was later referred to the district hospital for further treatment.

Following the encounter, officials inspected the scene. Police reported recovering a firearm and several cartridges from the criminal. Additionally, they seized the stolen scooter and the chain that had been snatched on August 14.

Earlier, on Tuesday, police in Udham Singh Nagar district detained five individuals for brandishing weapons and causing a disturbance. A video of the suspects waving firearms went viral on social media, prompting the Udham Singh Nagar police to take strict action. All five were arrested, and illegal weapons were confiscated, along with the seizure of a DJ vehicle.
