Dehradun, July 1: The ‘Uttarakhand Minority Education Act’ has officially come into effect in the Devbhoomi state of Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made the announcement on Wednesday.
CM Dhami shared the news on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “As of today, the ‘Uttarakhand Minority Education Act’ is in effect. This also marks the end of the Madrasa Education Board Act and the non-governmental Arabic-Persian Madrasa recognition rules.”
He further emphasized, “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our government is committed to establishing an education system in the state that is modern, transparent, high-quality, accountable, and based on the values of nation-building. The new system will ensure a uniform and transparent recognition process for all minority educational institutions.”
In his post on ‘X’, CM Dhami reiterated, “Our resolve is clear: the children of our state will be empowered through modern education, science, technology, skills, and Indian life values to play a meaningful role in building a developed Uttarakhand and a developed India. We are continuously moving forward with this goal.”
It is noteworthy that as of July 1, the Madrasa Education Board has been completely abolished in Uttarakhand. A new state minority education authority has been established, which will oversee significant educational reforms in minority institutions. Students will now receive NCERT curriculum textbooks.
The Uttarakhand government has already formed the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority, appointing Professor Surjeet Singh Gandhi as its chairperson. Additionally, distinguished scholars and professors from various minority communities have been included as members. Notable members include Professor Rakesh Kumar Jain, Dr. Syed Ali Hamid, Professor Pema Tenzing, Professor Gurmeet Singh, Dr. Elba Mandrele, Professor Robin Aman, Chandrashekhar Bhatt, and Rajendra Singh Bisht.
The Director General of School Education and the Director of SCERT will serve as ex-officio members, while the Director of Minority Welfare will act as the ex-officio secretary.
