Shenzhou-23 Crew Completes New Batch of Sample Collection and Seed Planting

The Shenzhou-23 astronauts achieved significant milestones in space science, including seed planting and data collection for research.

Beijing, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : Last week, the Shenzhou-23 crew, consisting of astronauts Zhu Yangzhu, Qiang Qiyuan, and Li Chaiying, made notable advancements in space science experiments and research in orbit.

One of the key projects, which focuses on the genetic stability and environmental adaptability of rice grown in space, is progressing smoothly. The astronauts successfully completed the collection, planting, and storage of a new batch of experimental rice samples. These samples will be brought back to Earth with the return capsule for detailed phenotypic and molecular analysis. This research aims to clarify how long-term exposure to microgravity in space affects the genetic stability of rice.

Additionally, the crew collaborated with the space robot “Xiaohang” to conduct touch interaction tests. They gathered data on the robot’s movement under various touch behaviors in orbit, which will help optimize the planning methods for robotic motion in space.

The team also evaluated their emergency decision-making capabilities and assessed their emotional states while in orbit. The collected data will contribute to understanding how astronauts’ emergency decision-making abilities and emotional conditions change during long-duration space missions.
