Uttarakhand Assembly Budget Session to Begin with Governors Address

Dehradun, March 9: The budget session of the Uttarakhand Assembly will commence on Monday at the assembly building in Bhararesain, the state’s summer capital. This session will last for two days, during which the government will present the budget for the fiscal year 2026–27.

The session will begin with an address from Governor Retired Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh. Both the ruling party and the opposition have prepared their strategies for the session.

On Sunday evening, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee was held under the chairmanship of Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, where the agenda for the two-day session was finalized. As this is the first session of 2026, it will kick off with the Governor’s address. According to the schedule, the Governor’s address will take place at 11 AM on Monday, followed by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presenting the state budget at 3 PM.

Reports suggest that this year’s budget for Uttarakhand may be around ₹1.11 lakh crore. This marks a historic moment as it is the first time in the state’s parliamentary history that the budget will be presented on the very first day of the session alongside the Governor’s address. On the second day, March 10, the government will present nine bills in the assembly. Additionally, a total of 600 questions have been raised by 38 legislators on various issues for discussion.

The Assembly Secretariat has completed all necessary preparations for the budget session at the Bhararesain assembly complex. Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan personally visited Bhararesain on Sunday to inspect the arrangements. Following this, an all-party meeting and the Business Advisory Committee meeting were held to discuss the smooth conduct of the session.

During the all-party meeting, the Assembly Speaker appealed to all parties for cooperation in maintaining a peaceful and orderly session. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Subodh Uniyal, BJP MLA Khajand Das, Umesh Sharma Kau, and BSP MLA Mohammad Shahzad were also present at the meetings.

This time, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will present his first full budget as Finance Minister. Previously, he presented a supplementary budget last year. Since the resignation of former Finance Minister Premchand Agarwal, the responsibility of the finance department has been handled by Chief Minister Dhami.
