Tehri Garhwal, August 25: In response to directives from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the district administration is intensifying efforts to prevent food adulteration during the festive season. This initiative aims to ensure that the public has access to safe and high-quality food products, particularly sweets and other food items.
District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal has instructed relevant officials to closely monitor the quality of food products and take necessary action against adulteration.
Following these directives, a joint team from the district supply department, police department, and food safety department inspected various food establishments, sweet shops, dairies, and restaurants in Chamba market. The team assessed the quality, cleanliness, maintenance, and food safety standards, collecting ten food samples in the process. These included four samples of sweets, three of grain products, one of yogurt, and two of other food items. All samples have been sent to an authorized laboratory for testing.
Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety Pramod Rawat stated that the inspection and sampling campaign will continue to ensure food quality. If any samples fail to meet the standards, appropriate actions will be taken against the respective vendors under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006.
Food business operators have been instructed to display price lists in their establishments and adhere to cleanliness and food safety standards. Consumers are also urged to pay special attention to the quality, cleanliness, and packaging of sweets and other food items when making purchases.
Additionally, the Food Safety and Drug Administration of Tehri has filed a case in the court of the Judicial Officer/Additional District Magistrate regarding the discovery of expired food items in two hotels.
