Rajgir, April 14: Ketan Kushwaha, the captain of Uttar Pradesh Hockey, has revealed that open communication and mutual trust were key to winning the Sub-Junior Men’s National Championship.
Kushwaha stated, “Scoring the initial goal gave me confidence that we could maintain momentum and increase our lead. We worked as a unit to sustain that pressure and ultimately secure the championship.”
He added, “The support we received in the dressing room was tremendous. We constantly communicated, identified our mistakes, and discussed how to rectify them on the field. This open dialogue and trust propelled us to victory in the finals.”
Uttar Pradesh Hockey triumphed over Hockey Madhya Pradesh with a score of 5-2 in the finals, remaining undefeated throughout the championship.
Dr. R.P. Singh, president of Uttar Pradesh Hockey, praised the victory, stating it reflects the state’s ongoing investment in nurturing young talent from the beginning.
Singh remarked, “Winning the 16th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men’s National Championship is a matter of great pride, not just for Uttar Pradesh Hockey but for every young boy who has spent countless hours on the field to realize this dream. Looking back at our journey—from a bronze medal in 2014 to where we stand today—demonstrates the systematic and patient work that goes into building a true hockey culture at the grassroots level.”
He continued, “This gold did not come suddenly. It is the result of a long process and relentless effort. Identifying young players early and developing them with the right coaching, facilities, and an environment that fosters improvement year after year is crucial. Each year, boys from Uttar Pradesh come to these major domestic competitions more prepared, more confident, and technically better than the previous year.”
He credited coach Rajneesh Mishra for consistently improving the environment and emphasized the players’ talent and discipline in representing Uttar Pradesh.
Dr. R.P. Singh concluded, “We are equally committed to enhancing our women’s and senior programs and are working to replicate this success in those streams.”
He added, “We are celebrating the success of these young athletes.”
This championship victory marks a new chapter in Uttar Pradesh Hockey’s impressive form. Since 2021, the state has won 13 medals in national championships, including five gold medals across the sub-junior men’s, junior men’s, and senior men’s categories. Additionally, they have secured medals in women’s sub-junior and junior competitions.
