Mumbai, April 15: Divya Singh, a resident of Gorakhpur, has successfully reached the Everest Base Camp by bicycle. In an interview with a news agency, she stated, “I am the second woman in the world and the first in India to reach the base camp of Mount Everest, which stands at an altitude of 17,560 feet.”
Divya is currently preparing for a government job, but her passion for cycling and trekking drives her. She transformed this passion into a remarkable journey, covering approximately 700 kilometers from Kathmandu to the Everest Base Camp in just 14 days. She began her expedition on March 16.
During her journey, she faced numerous challenges, including heavy rain and snowfall. The temperatures dropped to between minus 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. Fortunately, the weather improved on the day she reached the base camp, with temperatures at minus 12 degrees Celsius. She explained that the air becomes thin at high altitudes, containing only 50% of the oxygen, which can lead to physical difficulties and increased heart rates. She encountered several challenges along the way.
Divya Singh’s achievement has become a new symbol of adventure sports and confidence among Indian women. Her inspiring story is going viral on social media, motivating countless young women. She has proven that any woman from a humble background can overcome significant challenges.
Last month, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized empowering women. He participated in the Fit India Pink Cyclothon in Kolkata on International Women’s Day to promote women’s fitness and cycling.
