New Delhi, April 15: IPL 2026 has been a disappointing season for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The team has yet to secure a win, suffering another defeat against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday. Following this loss, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined.
In the match held in Chennai, KKR’s bowling pace was notably slow. As a result, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) imposed a fine of ₹12 lakh on Rahane under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This was KKR’s first over-rate violation of the season, leading to a minimum penalty.
Rahane is the fourth captain this season to face fines due to slow over rates. Prior to him, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, and Ruturaj Gaikwad were also penalized. Iyer faced fines in consecutive matches, with ₹12 lakh for the first and ₹24 lakh for the second.
Regarding KKR’s performance, the team is still in search of its first victory this season. Out of five matches played, KKR has lost four, with one match against Punjab Kings being washed out due to rain, earning them just one point. KKR currently sits at the bottom of the points table in tenth place.
Looking at Rahane’s individual performance, the experienced player started IPL 2026 on a high note, scoring 67 runs off 40 balls in the opening match against the Mumbai Indians. However, he has not been able to replicate that form in the subsequent four innings, accumulating a total of 152 runs across five matches.
