Chennai, April 15: In a thrilling match on Tuesday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) triumphed over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 32 runs at their home ground, Chepauk Stadium. This victory marks CSK’s second consecutive win in the IPL 2026 season, providing relief for captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, especially after facing criticism following early losses.
Following the win against KKR, CSK has climbed to the eighth position in the standings, a move up from tenth place. While this improvement is encouraging for both the team and Gaikwad, his performance as a batsman remains a concern. In the match against KKR, Gaikwad managed only 7 runs off 6 balls.
JioStar expert Ravichandran Ashwin reviewed Gaikwad’s batting and suggested some adjustments. On the program ‘Google Search AI Mode Match Center Live,’ Ashwin stated, “As a captain, he has secured some victories, which should ease the team’s journey in the tournament. Honestly, if I were sitting in the dugout or in Ruturaj Gaikwad’s position, I wouldn’t be overly worried. T20 is a game where you need to consistently show intent. However, I would like to point out that if you observe Ayush Mhatre or Sanju Samson, they have made the right choices on the field. Ruturaj is straying a bit and getting caught out early. If he plays a bit more cautiously at the start of his innings, times the ball better, and plays more down the ground, it would benefit him.”
Due to Gaikwad’s poor form, CSK has struggled with weak starts in nearly every match. Many experts are now recommending that Ayush Mhatre open the innings alongside Samson instead of Gaikwad.
Looking at Gaikwad’s performance as captain, he has scored only 63 runs across 5 innings in 5 matches.
