USA Batsman Aaron Jones Suspended Ahead of T20 World Cup Over Anti-Corruption Charges

New Delhi: USA batsman Aaron Jones has been provisionally suspended from all forms of cricket with immediate effect following allegations of five breaches of the Anti-Corruption Code by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC). This development comes ahead of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where Jones was part of the USA squad preparing in Sri Lanka.

The charges relate to incidents during the Barbados B10 League 2023/24 as well as international matches. Jones has been given 14 days from 28 January 2026 to respond to the allegations.

The ICC stated that Jones is accused of violating Article 2.1.1 of the CWI Anti-Corruption Code, which prohibits fixing or attempting to fix match outcomes, conduct, or any aspect of the game. Additional violations include failure to disclose any corrupt approaches or invitations under Article 2.4.2, and non-cooperation with investigations as per Article 2.4.4 of the code.

Under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, Jones is also charged with withholding information regarding corrupt approaches (Article 2.4.4) and obstructing investigations by concealing or tampering with evidence (Article 2.4.7).

Aaron Jones has represented the USA in 52 One Day Internationals and 48 T20 Internationals. He was actively involved in the national team’s preparations for the T20 World Cup starting on 7 February.

The ICC further indicated that this case is part of a broader investigation and cautioned that more players could face similar charges in the near future. The governing body has stated it will not comment further until the disciplinary proceedings conclude.
