Unpredictable Weather Hits Madhya Pradesh: Heavy Winds and Rain Expected in 13 Districts

Bhopal, May 10: Unpredictable weather has struck Madhya Pradesh due to the influence of two low-pressure areas and an active cyclonic circulation.

On Saturday, the weather department’s Bhopal center issued a warning for thunderstorms and rain in 13 districts. This follows reports of strong winds and light rain in over 20 districts, including Bhopal, on Friday.

The sudden weather changes have led to a mix of stormy conditions and persistent heat across the state, causing discomfort among residents. Forecasts indicate that districts such as Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori, Anuppur, Umaria, Shahdol, Sidhi, and Singrauli may experience thunderstorms accompanied by heavy winds. There is also a risk of lightning in some areas.

Signs of weather disturbances were already evident in various parts of the state on Friday, with strong winds reported in some regions and light rain in others. Affected districts include Bhopal, Seoni, Chhindwara, Raisen, Sagar, Damoh, Dewas, Khargone, Vidisha, Rajgarh, Tikamgarh, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Betul, Narsinghpur, Mandla, and Dindori.

Despite the stormy weather, extreme heat persists in many cities. Ratlam recorded the highest temperature at 43.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Shajapur at 42.6 degrees Celsius and Ujjain at 42.4 degrees Celsius. Bhopal and Indore both reached 41.2 degrees Celsius, while Jabalpur recorded 38.8 degrees Celsius and Gwalior 37.5 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists note that unusual weather patterns have been observed since the beginning of May. Typically, this month brings intense heat, but this year has seen storms, rain, and even hail disrupting the usual climate.

The primary causes behind this unusual situation are attributed to western disturbances, low-pressure lines, and cyclonic systems.

The weather department predicts that stormy and rainy conditions will persist until Saturday, after which a rapid increase in temperatures is expected. Starting Sunday, daytime temperatures in most cities could rise by three to four degrees Celsius.

Officials have advised residents to remain vigilant during adverse weather and to avoid open spaces, trees, and power lines during storms and lightning. Farmers have also been warned about potential crop damage due to unseasonal rain and hail, raising concerns across the state.
