Understanding Cold Hands and Feet: A Sign of Underlying Health Issues

New Delhi, April 28: Many individuals experience cold or numb hands and feet. This condition is not merely a normal bodily change; it often indicates internal weakness. Ignoring this symptom can be detrimental to one’s health.

During the summer months, this issue tends to worsen. While the external environment and body temperature remain warm, hands and feet can feel icy. This seemingly minor symptom signals weakness in the body and poor blood circulation. When blood does not circulate properly, it fails to reach the extremities, resulting in cold hands and feet. Proper blood flow generates warmth and helps maintain body temperature. Poor digestion can also be a significant contributing factor. Inefficient digestion prevents the body from receiving adequate energy, directly affecting the warmth of the hands and feet.

Stress and weakness disrupt the body’s balance and digestion. This disruption can hinder blood flow to the hands and feet. Prolonged coldness in these areas may lead to a condition known as Raynaud’s disease, where the blood vessels constrict, obstructing blood flow. This can result in pain in the hands and feet, along with potential issues like varicose veins.

To combat this, several precautions are necessary. Regular walking can enhance blood circulation in the legs, helping to maintain warmth. If hands and feet feel cold, consider massaging them with oil during summer and wrapping them in cotton cloths to generate heat. This can boost blood circulation. Additionally, deficiencies in iron and vitamins may also contribute to cold extremities. Therefore, it is essential to consume a nutritious diet rich in iron and vitamins.
