New Delhi, August 28: Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan at his residence. On this occasion, the sister of Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, tied a rakhi on him.
In a conversation with the media, Shekhawat extended his best wishes for Raksha Bandhan and urged people to draw inspiration from the sacrifices made in Khejri and commit to environmental protection.
He stated, “Today holds special significance in India’s cultural heritage. The Indian tradition has not confined Raksha Bandhan to just the bond between brothers and sisters. Over time, its importance has broadened. Our civilization has a tradition of considering everything derived from nature as divine. Today, as we tie the sacred thread of protection from our sisters and assure them of our support, we must also pledge to protect every aspect of nature and the environment.”
The minister emphasized, “India has a long series of festivals, with Raksha Bandhan being one of the most significant. This festival provides us an opportunity to take responsibility. I urge everyone to commit to nature and environmental protection. The land of Rajasthan has a tradition of sacrifice for nature and the environment, with 363 mothers and sisters having sacrificed for trees on this very land.”
Regarding the sudden floods in Nepal, he remarked, “In today’s times, as we witness the wrath of nature in our neighboring country Nepal, we are feeling the challenges posed by changes in nature. On this Raksha Bandhan, we should all resolve to work towards environmental protection.”
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak stated, “Today, the auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm across the country and the world. Sisters have been visiting their brothers’ homes since morning, celebrating this festival together. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the people of the state on this occasion.”
