UN Official Commends Indias Anti-Terrorism Efforts During Meeting with C.B. George

New York, April 24: India’s Secretary of External Affairs (West), C.B. George, met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and subsequently with Alexander Zuev, the Acting Under-Secretary-General of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT). The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the meetings.

During their discussions, both leaders focused on enhancing cooperation between India and UNOCT in the fight against terrorism. The Ministry shared images from the meeting on the social media platform X, stating, “Secretary (West) C.B. George met with Acting Under-Secretary-General Alexander Zuev to discuss India’s strong collaboration with UNOCT in addressing the threat of terrorism.”

Zuev praised India’s long-standing contributions to global counter-terrorism efforts, which include support for UNOCT and capacity-building initiatives.

The two sides also explored ways to strengthen collaboration and preparations for the upcoming Counter-Terrorism Week, scheduled from June 26 to July 2, 2026.

UNOCT posted on X, “With Secretary (West) C.B. George, Acting USG Zuev discussed enhancing cooperation and preparations for Counter-Terrorism Week. He thanked India for its longstanding role in global counter-terrorism efforts, including support for UNOCT and capacity-building programs.”

In addition, Secretary George met with Laura Dupuy Lacerre, Uruguay’s Permanent Representative and Chairperson of the G-77. They discussed efforts to strengthen South-South cooperation and the associated needs.

India’s official handle at the UN shared, “Secretary (West) C.B. George met with Uruguay’s Permanent Representative and G-77 Chairperson Laura Dupuy Lacerre to discuss strengthening South-South cooperation and the need for a common voice for the Global South regarding economic and development challenges.”

The Permanent Mission of India noted discussions on enhancing development for the Global South through initiatives like the India-UN Development Partnership Fund. During his busy visit this week, which began with a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at the UN complex, George met with various UN officials and diplomats from multiple countries.

Historically, India has been the largest contributor to UN peacekeeping operations. George has engaged in numerous discussions with officials, including Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, and Khalid Khiyari, Assistant Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. Together, they reaffirmed India’s steadfast commitment to peacekeeping operations.
