UKD Opposes Devbhoomi Family ID, Submits Memorandum to Governor

Uttarkashi, June 18: Political activity surrounding the Devbhoomi Family ID has intensified in the state. The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) recently expressed its opposition to the newly established provisions by submitting a memorandum to the Governor through the District Magistrate of Uttarkashi.

Due to the District Magistrate’s busy schedule, the memorandum was handed over to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Uttarkashi. Party leaders issued a clear warning that if the interests of only the state’s original residents are not prioritized under the Devbhoomi Family ID, the UKD will initiate a statewide movement.

A delegation from the UKD sent a memorandum to the Governor on Wednesday, urging a reconsideration of the provisions related to the Devbhoomi Family ID and ensuring the protection of the rights of Uttarakhand’s original residents. Party leaders argued that allowing registration for individuals who have resided in the state for 15 years contradicts the foundational spirit of the separate Uttarakhand state movement and the objectives of its formation.

UKD District President Pandit Bihari Lal Jagudi stated that the party has long demanded the implementation of a resident system based on the year 1950. He emphasized that the current provisions of the Devbhoomi Family ID adversely affect the rights and interests of original residents, and the party strongly opposes it.

Kiran Rawat, Advocate and Central General Secretary of the party, asserted that the government should clarify the intentions behind the Devbhoomi Family ID law. She alleged that the current system raises concerns about outsiders settling in the state, which could negatively impact Uttarakhand’s cultural and social identity.

Rakesh Semwal, Chairman of the Central Disciplinary Committee, insisted that the government must ensure that the benefits of the Devbhoomi Family ID are exclusively for the state’s original residents. He warned that if the government fails to make an appropriate decision on this matter, the UKD will be compelled to launch a statewide agitation, for which the government will bear full responsibility.

UKD leaders also expressed concern over incidents of violence and the use of weapons that occurred during the Char Dham Yatra, demanding strict action against the perpetrators. They stated that effective measures must be taken to maintain the peace, social harmony, and cultural dignity of Devbhoomi.

During the memorandum submission, several UKD officials and workers were present, including District Vice President Jagat Ramola, District Publicity Minister Pratap Ramola, Sandeep Rana, Pankaj Uniyal, Surjeet Rana, Mohit Mathura, and Ashish Negi.
