UCC: A Law for the Safety and Dignity of Daughters, Says Rameshwar Sharma

Bhopal, June 24: BJP legislator Rameshwar Sharma has stated that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is a law aimed at ensuring the safety and dignity of daughters. The state government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, is preparing to present a draft of the UCC in the upcoming assembly session in July. They are also inviting suggestions from the residents of the state.

In light of ongoing efforts to implement the UCC, Sharma addressed reporters, emphasizing that this law genuinely protects the dignity and safety of daughters, as well as the education and protection of innocent children.

He noted that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, was a proponent of this law. Ambedkar envisioned the implementation of a uniform civil code, but leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and the government of that time were opposed to its enactment. Baba Saheb always stressed the need for a single law, a single leader, and a single symbol for the nation.

Sharma asserted that the UCC would put an end to the coercion by religious leaders and ensure that daughters live with dignity. Regardless of whether a daughter is Hindu, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, or Muslim, she is a daughter of India. The state is rapidly advancing towards the implementation of the UCC, and public suggestions are being actively sought.

The government claims that over 900,000 suggestions have been received so far, with 90% of them in favor of the law. The aim is to present this draft in the upcoming assembly session.
