Amman, July 19: The U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan, has issued a security alert advising its citizens to remain vigilant. The embassy has recommended avoiding travel to the country’s airports and seaports due to safety concerns.
In an advisory shared on social media, the embassy noted that Jordanian authorities have evacuated the international airport and port in Aqaba based on “specific and credible information.”
The embassy stated, “We advise all American citizens to refrain from traveling to the airport or port and to continue following all instructions issued by Jordanian security officials.”
Additionally, the embassy reiterated that U.S. citizens should avoid visiting military installations in Jordan, as security threats persist. It encouraged individuals to check the National Center for Security and Crisis Management’s website for public safety guidelines, including information related to emergency sirens. Citizens are also advised to steer clear of protests or large gatherings and to avoid areas with heavy police presence while staying updated through local media on security developments.
The U.S. Embassy also recommended that citizens enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). This program provides travelers with the latest security information and allows the embassy to contact them easily in emergencies.
Earlier, on March 2, 2026, the U.S. State Department ordered the departure of non-emergency American government employees and their families from Jordan due to security concerns.
This warning comes amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran. The U.S. has reported that it has continued military operations against Iran for the eighth consecutive night. According to U.S. officials, two military personnel were killed following an attack by Iran in Jordan.
In light of the current situation, Jordan has intensified its security measures. Increased vigilance is being exercised at airports, ports, and military installations amid regional tensions.
