Two Smugglers Arrested with 15.38 Kilograms of Hydroponic Cannabis at IGI Airport

New Delhi, June 8: The Customs Department at Indira Gandhi International Airport has once again thwarted the plans of smugglers. They successfully intercepted a significant attempt to smuggle hydroponic cannabis, seizing 15.38 kilograms of the drug hidden inside geysers.

Based on specific intelligence and profiling, Customs officials at IGI Airport in New Delhi managed to foil a major drug smuggling operation. According to the Customs Department, two passengers arriving from Kuala Lumpur on flight number D7-182 were stopped after crossing the green channel on June 7 (Sunday). During monitoring and inspection, officials discovered that the passengers were carrying two brand new geysers in addition to their checked baggage.

Upon continuous questioning and a thorough examination of their mobile phones, officials grew suspicious about the contents hidden inside the geysers. Consequently, an X-ray examination of the devices was conducted, indicating the likelihood of concealed substances within their internal structures.

Upon opening the geysers, Customs officials found a well-organized concealment method. They recovered 145 vacuum-sealed packets cleverly hidden inside the devices. The examination of the seized packets revealed a green leafy substance suspected to be hydroponic cannabis.

The total weight of the seized narcotics was found to be 15.38 kilograms, with an estimated illegal market value of approximately ₹5.38 crores. The confiscated substances have been seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act of 1985, and both passengers have been arrested. Further investigations are ongoing.

Previously, Customs officials at IGI Airport had arrested two smugglers with narcotics worth ₹48 crores. These individuals were stopped after arriving on a flight from Bangkok (AI-2356) and crossing the green channel. During the investigation, six vacuum-sealed packets suspected to contain hydroponic cannabis were recovered. Four packets weighing about 29 kilograms were found in one passenger’s luggage, while two packets weighing approximately 19 kilograms were discovered in the other passenger’s belongings.
