New Delhi, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Severe weather in New Delhi on September 4 caused significant disruptions to air travel. Strong winds and heavy rainfall impacted operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport, resulting in the diversion of at least nine flights and delays for over 400 others.
Airport officials reported that four flights were redirected to Jaipur and Lucknow, while one flight was sent to Ahmedabad. These diversions occurred between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM.
Lucknow Airport indicated that four flights bound for Delhi were turned back due to adverse weather. Similarly, Jaipur Airport noted that five flights scheduled to arrive in Delhi were redirected to Jaipur.
In light of the weather-related disruptions, several airlines issued travel advisories. IndiGo stated that the poor weather conditions had affected their flight schedules and advised passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport, allowing for extra travel time.
Air India also warned that flights arriving and departing from Delhi might be impacted, urging travelers to verify the latest flight status prior to their journey.
The airline emphasized, “Due to adverse weather today, flights to and from Delhi may be affected. To ensure a smooth travel experience, we recommend passengers check their flight status before heading to the airport.”
IndiGo reassured customers that they were closely monitoring the weather and were committed to ensuring safe travel. The airline expressed appreciation for passengers’ patience and understanding, stating that safety and comfort are their top priorities.
Akasa Air confirmed that its network was also experiencing disruptions due to the weather in Delhi. The India Meteorological Department had issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in parts of Delhi-NCR, leading to reports of waterlogging in various areas.
