New Delhi, March 24: In a significant breakthrough, cyber police in New Delhi’s Shahdara district have arrested two individuals involved in a major Telegram-based investment scam. The accused allegedly defrauded a victim of ₹105,969 under the guise of cryptocurrency trading and attractive investment schemes. Authorities have also seized two mobile phones used in the crime.
The case came to light on November 12, 2025, when 30-year-old Raman Sharma from Shahdara filed a complaint with the cyber police. He reported that on July 18, 2025, he was contacted by unknown individuals through a Telegram group. The suspects lured him with promises of high returns on cryptocurrency investments. To gain his trust, they presented fake screenshots of alleged customer profits and fabricated investment returns.
Falling for these false claims, Sharma transferred a total of ₹105,969 to various bank accounts and UPI IDs. When he received no returns and the suspects vanished, he realized he had been scammed and promptly reported the incident to the Shahdara cyber police.
Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and an investigation was launched. Given the seriousness of the case, a special team from the cyber police was formed to advance the inquiry through technical surveillance and digital evidence analysis.
Following a thorough investigation, police identified and arrested two suspects: 28-year-old Rinku from Bulandshahr and 26-year-old Abhishek Yadav from Aligarh. According to police, Rinku primarily managed the bank accounts and mobile numbers used to receive the scammed funds. During his arrest, police recovered a mobile phone containing a SIM card linked to the relevant bank account.
Abhishek Yadav is accused of handling OTPs and transaction alerts associated with the fraudulent bank accounts. He was also found in possession of a mobile phone related to the scam transactions.
Authorities revealed that the recovered mobile phones were integral to operating this cyber fraud network. The investigation is ongoing, with police working to uncover additional members of the gang and the extent of their operations.
The timely action and technical investigation by the Shahdara cyber police team have led to this success, with officials emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring of cyber fraud cases to prevent future incidents.
